Choosing Austin as our home was a no-brainer. Pick up any
“five best places for anything” list — business, technology, education, music, art, sports,
lifestyle, climate, beauty, cost-of-living, fun — and Austin’s on it.
The national media alternately calls it the new Silicon Valley, the Third Coast,
the City of Ideas and, of course, the Live Music Capital of the World. In his 2004 release,
“The Rise of the Creative Class,” researcher Richard Florida ranked Austin the most creative city
in America. Maybe it’s a convergence thing: 50,000 plus students at The University of Texas,
the state legislature, Hank Hill, the South by Southwest Music, Film, and Interactive Festivals,
1.5 million bats (the largest urban bat colony in North America) living under the
Congress Ave; nue bridge… great music every single night.
Number one reason to live in Austin? — The people. Austinites are educated,
progressive, friendly, outdoor-loving, and open-minded. T-shirts and jeans do business
with coats and ties. Business leaders, captains of industry, educators, filmmakers,
politicians, musicians—they’re all here; all creating the next big thing. Maybe it’s
something in the water (the Colorado River runs through the heart of town).
Or maybe it’s the 300 plus days of sunshine a year.
Whatever it is, it makes for one fertile place to grow ideas and companies.
